Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding,Inc.
Established in 1991, Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding is the oldest nationally accredited therapeutic riding center in South Carolina. Dedicated to providing their students with a sense of joy and accomplishment through horseback riding, they serve individuals with a variety of disabilities and conditions. With the assistance of certified instructors, physical therapists, doctors, psychologists, special education teachers, and a well-trained volunteer corps CATR uses horses and equine related activities to achieve a variety of therapeutic goals.
Therapeutic riding has been proven to help improve balance, mobility, muscle tone, coordination and posture as well as increase concentration, self-confidence and independence. The special bond that forms between horse and rider also leads to increased patience, trust and self-esteem.
