Summer is a good planning time for nonprofits

Summer is here (hooray!) and it's a good time for tackling a few projects that will strengthen your nonprofit the rest of the year.

For example, now is a good time to review routine thank-you letters that are sent year-round whenever solicited and unsolicited gifts are received. I've written and spoken often about investing in a thoughtful stewardship program. This begins with a quality thank-you letter.

Here's an example of when the focus of the letter is on the donor: "Thanks to your generous donation to this program, you have given 10 hungry children a warm, nutritious meal every day for seven days."
This describes what the donor has done to change a life.
