Tiger Lily florist has chosen Be A Mentor for its May edition of Charity in Bloom. Through the end of the month, 20% of the proceeds from the program’s special arrangement will be donated to the mentoring nonprofit organization.

The arrangement for Be A Mentor includes peaches and pinks through roses, spray roses, stock, sweet peas, peonies and accents of green mini hydrangea.

The Charity in Bloom program works to increase awareness and raise funds for nonprofit organizations that work to improve the health and wellness of children and families through medical research, education and mentorship.

The arrangement is available in four sizes, for $75, $95, $125 and $150; it can be ordered online or by calling 843-723-2808.



Charleston Animal Society is holding a pet adoption event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Baker Motor Co. at 2121 U.S. Highway 17 North in Mount Pleasant.

 Rein and Shine, Horses that Heal, is one of almost 80 therapeutic riding facilities nominated in the Lexlin Gypsy horse giveaway. The top 20 facilities to receive the most online votes through June 15 will win a specially trained therapy horse for their program.

Rein and Shine, an accredited facility from the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International, has been providing horseback riding therapy since 2001 to adults and children with physical, emotional, and cognitive challenges.


Share Our Suzy’s 13th annual Fun-raiser at The Grove at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant is scheduled for 5 to 10 p.m. May 27.

The event will include live music and food from local food purveyors.

Tickets are $50 in advance and $65 the day of, with a $100 “Friends of Suzy” VIP option available. All tickets include food and drinks and can be purchased online or by calling 843-410-7970. All net proceeds from the event will directly benefit breast cancer patients in the Lowcountry.


The Glass Onion’s May Charity Tasting, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 10, will benefit Birthdays for All. The tasting will include beers from Westbrook Brewing Co., paired with small bites, for $10 per person.

Attendees who bring new toys for kids to the event will receive a free deviled egg. The organization needs gifts for kids ages 1 to 21, with the 18- to 21-year-olds being people with special needs. The largest need is for ages 12 to 18, such as lotions, craft kits, jewelry kits, Axe products and Pokemon cards. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.


The Charleston Parks Conservancy has awarded its first ArtFields exhibition prize to Joseph Dreher of Decatur, Ga., for his 144-by-288-foot piece titled Not a Mural Mural, portrait stencils carved out of veneer plywood.

Dreher will receive $5,000 from the conservancy and will be create a work of art to be displayed at a city of Charleston park later this year.

The award is part of the conservancy’s new Art in the Parks initiative, an effort to install temporary public art displays in Charleston city parks through collaborations with other arts organizations, including Artfields, the Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs and the nonprofit Redux Contemporary Art Center. The Art in the Parks program also will offer educational opportunities and artist-led workshops for adults and children.


Enough Pie is celebrating two new murals at the Martin Luther King Jr. pool.

The Under the Sea: Mural Kick-Off is set for 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at 155 Jackson St. in Charleston.

A team of local artists led by Greer Farrell and Meg Goettsches has created two large-scale exterior murals facing the pool, with turtles, jellyfish and coral reefs. The murals teach about ocean health through a three-part pledge created by The Nature Conservancy in South Carolina to protect the oceans.

The kickoff event will include music, snacks, drinks and giant bubbles.
