Thousands vote for community service

Just 10 days after that other election day, thousands of tri-county residents will vote with their hearts and their hands as part of Trident United Way's Day of Caring. One of the most successful one-day volunteer efforts in the world, Day of Caring is Nov. 14.

  The 15th annual Trident United Way Day of Caring corresponds with Trident United Way's 70th anniversary. Fittingly, the event is chaired this year by Fleetwood Hassell, a Charleston native and president and CEO of the Bank of South Carolina, a venerable local bank started by Hugh Lane Jr., whose family was among the founders of Trident United Way back in 1944.

 Thousands of people representing hundreds of organizations will be at nonprofits and schools throughout Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties doing projects the nonprofits couldn't do for themselves.
