Nearly $2.5 million raised for 'Lift the Lowcountry' campaign

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -Public donations for the "Lift the Lowcountry" campaign soared Tuesday, with the final total coming in only a couple thousand dollars short of $2.5 million. 

The campaign, which is part a larger national effort called "Give Local America," is rallying the community to make gifts that support local causes. Hundreds of community foundations nationwide are involved in the 24-hour event and nearly 100 non-profit organizations across the Lowcountry are encouraging the public to donate.

When the day of giving came to an end,  6,677 donations were made, raising $2,494,023.13 for local organizations. More than $100,000 was raised for the Charleston Animal Society, Spoleto Festival USA, and Ashley Hall, while the Charleston Symphony Orchestra lead the way with $132,236.
