The Amazing Raise seeks to help local nonprofits

PETERSBURG, VA - For the third year, nonprofits across the region are competing in a 36-hour challenge to raise money that features fun, festivities and prizes.

The Amazing Raise returns this year and allows people to donate online to Tri-City area nonprofits at www.GiveSouthsideVA.org. The events starts at 6 a.m. today and ends at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Over the past two years, this unique online giving challenge has generated more than 20,000 gifts and $1.8 million for local charities. In addition, 30 percent of Amazing Raise donors reported giving to an organization for the first time.
