Charleston Association of Grant Professionals (CAGP) to meet Tuesday, Feb. 19
The Charleston Association of Grant Professionals will meet Tuesday, Feb. 19 from 5:45 - 7:30 pm in the auditorium of the Main Branch of the Charleston County Public Library, 68 Calhoun St. in Charleston.
The speaker will be Jessica Browning, assistant vice president of the Winkler Group, a full-service fundraising consulting firm headquartered in Charleston. She has 20 years of nonprofit experience and hold a B.A. from Duke University and an M.A. and M.B.A. from William and Mary.
The topic will be "Grants as Part of a Comprehensive Development Program." While many nonprofits rely on grants as a significant funding source, a robust development program should include much more.
Jessica will outline the many components of a comprehensive development program, from annual giving to major and planned gifts. She will touch on important factors such as the case for support and online giving. She will share her views on the limitations of event-based fundraising. Above all, she will demonstrate how proper cultivation and stewardship of donors -- as well as foundations -- leads to a stronger fundraising program, larger gifts, and the acceptance of more grant proposals.
Jessica will also briefly reprise "The 990: A Grant Writer's Secret Weapon," a presentation she delivered at the 2011 CAGP Grants Forum to provide an overview of this important grants tool.
