Celebrate Giving Tuesday by giving back

For the past few days, it’s been all about getting - Black Friday, Shop Local Saturday, Cyber Monday.  

But today is #GivingTuesday an aptly named global  event that uses the power of social media to encourage people to contribute - as much as they can in one day -  to the charities of their choice.

Using the hashtag #GivingTuesday, participants can connect with communities, organizations and fellow participants to achieve the event’s aim - to celebrate and encourage giving.

#GivingTuesday was created in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y, a New York cultural center. It was scheduled strategically on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, on the heels of the country’s biggest display of conspicuous consumption.
