The Charleston Human Services Commission will have a new name to match its expanded service area in January.
The nonprofit, which
operates largely on federal funds, helps the economically underprivileged with
a variety of issues, from medical needs to educational assistance.
The commission works
in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties and recently added Beaufort
and Jasper counties.
The agency will
change its name in January to the Palmetto Community Action Partnership,
Executive Director Arnold Collins told the Dorchester County Council on Monday.
"Tri-county no
longer works for us - we have added to that," he said.
But the additional
counties means more clients - and with federal budgets flat, those dollars that
fund the commission only go so far, Collins said.
