Presenter: Pat Goss, Executive Director of the United Methodist Relief Center (UMRC) since its inception in 1989
Pat had lived in Mt. Pleasant just three months before Hurricane Hugo and began her work as a volunteer coordinating the disaster relief teams who arrived to assist in damage clean-up. During the recovery from the hurricane, it became obvious that there were many more people who had needed help long before the storm. Due to Pat’s tireless devotion to her mission, UMRC began finding ways to help provide shelter for hundreds of people living in poverty. Pat learned about the construction industry and building codes and became one of the first women in SC to be a licensed contractor. Thanks to her vision, hundreds of people are living in safer, healthier homes. (From http://www.umrc.org/)
Pat has written many federal and foundation grants and raised a lot of money for UMRC. She also served on the Board of SCANPO (S.C. Association of Nonprofit Organizations) for many years. As an extremely successful executive director, Pat has a lot of information to share and will talk about fundraising in light of today’s economic climate.
