AARP TAX-AIDE SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FOR 2010

AARP Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free volunteer-run tax assistance and preparation service is seeking volunteers to assist in tax assistance and tax preparation in Charleston, West Ashley, James Island and Johns Island. Last year our district helped more than 1100 of our neighbors.

Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are welcome; you do not need to be a member of AARP or a retiree to volunteer. Volunteers receive free IRS approved tax training and certification. They help clients one-on-one at tax sites. It is a great way to learn new skills and to be involved in your community. Familiarity with computers is helpful and the availability of a laptop computer is useful but is not necessary.

Volunteer training packets are available now and training/certification sessions are planned for the week of January 18. Volunteers are assigned to one of five sites in the area and asked to volunteer for a minimum of four hours a week for the ten-week tax season.
Please respond immediately to the District Coordinator, JoAnne Hicks at 843-723-6218 or jhicks57@comcast.net

Nonprofit Jobs

I am often asked if I know of any good resources for looking for nonprofit jobs. I recently came across this article on Blue Avocado that has some great resources for job searching in this field. I would suggest checking at www.scanpo.org on a local level and I will also be posting any jobs I hear of on this blog.

Hope this is helpful.
