Women & Philanthropy Luncheon and Panel Discussion

Center for Women will be hosting an event where local women philanthropists will discuss their personal approach to giving and supporting non-profit efforts in the community.

L.I.M.E. hosts dinner to benefit Lowcountry Orphan Relief November 13

Charleston's newest underground dining experience:
L.I.M.E. (Local.Impromptu.Moveable.Evening), will be hosting a dinner to benefit Lowcountry Orphan Relief on November 13, 2010. L.I.M.E.'s emphasizes the concepts of Slow Foods, Local, Sustainability, Community and Family. The chefs are either graduating students or alumni of The Culinary Institute of Charleston. Each month's featured chefs chose the charity of their choice. Chef Laura Vein has chosen LOR as her benefiting charity for her November LIME. Each chef is usually paired with either a mixologist or a sommelier. Chef Vein will be featuring a 7 course French Inspired menu. LIME takes great pride in being Certified SC, meaning their menus comprise of mostly local ingredients.

The location for each LIME is revealed only to confirmed guests at least two days before the LIME via email. Guests are then asked to retrieve their mystery package at a participating local business prior to the LIME. Each mystery package contains the menu, comment cards, information about the sources for ingredients, information from sponsoring local businesses and most importantly, the actual location of the LIME.

The November LIME is an all-inclusive dinner, meaning your ticket price covers food, beverage, gratuity and tax (with the optional tax write off). Tickets are $125 per person and can be purchased online at http://www.limeincharleston.com/

Multicultural, family-oriented book festival at the Main Library this Saturday



More than 100 authors, poets, storytellers and exhibitors are coming to Charleston for a full day of fun, free activities at the first local Capital BookFest, a multicultural, family-oriented book festival hosted at Charleston County Public Library and Blue Bicycle Books.

The festival’s goal is to “strengthen families through reading" by bringing the community together to meet national and local authors, attend readings, panel discussions and workshops plus enjoy fun activities for all ages in the KidsZone area. Events are scheduled between 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and are free. Free parking will be available for the public in the Aquarium garage.
