Event Reminder- Run (or walk) for the ARK

I love to run, especially for a good cause. Sadly I have to work so I can't make it to this one but I hope all of you will participate and show your support for the ARK.
The 10th Annual Race for The ARK 5K Run/Walk and 1 miler will take place on Saturday, August 29, 2009. Proceeds benefit The ARK's programs serving individuals with Alzheimer's and other dementia. The 5K starts at 7:45 a.m.and the 1 mile walk at 8:45. The starting point is St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 206 Central Avenue in Summerville.
The ARK is also sponsoring a "TIN FOR TEN". Bring a canned good on race day or to packet pick-up to support Tricounty Family Ministries food pantry.

UnitedHealth HEROES Grants

Educators, service-learning coordinators, and students in the health professions are eligible to apply for the UnitedHealth HEROES service-learning project grants. Service-learning is a teaching and learning strategy that combines meaningful service to the community with school-based curriculum or program-based learning.Grant recipients will receive up to $1,000 in support for service-learning projects that focus on childhood obesity, engage youth ages 5-25 in the planning and implementation process, and take place during Semester of Service 2010
(MLK Day, January 18, to Global Youth Service Day, April 23-25).

Who is eligible?
Educators, service-learning coordinators, and students in the health professions.
States eligible for this year’s UnitedHealth HEROES program include: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin.

Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy Grant Program

The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy has announced its 2010 National Grant competition. The Foundation's grant-making program seeks to develop or expand projects designed to support the development of literacy skills for adult primary care givers and their children. A total of approximately $650,000 will be awarded; no grant request should exceed $65,000. Deadline is September 4.
